Are these blisters normal?
« on: May 07, 2008, 01:47:00 PM »
Hello gents,

I've been shooting a lot lately and have developed a bad blister on my right index finger. I shoot split finger and the spot where the blister is sits directly over the arrow's nock when I draw my bow. I've been using a tab and was wondering if this sort of thing is normal or not. It's bad enough to where my finger will start bleeding bad enough that I have to stop shooting. My bow's tuning may be off as well, could that be the culprit?

Thanks everyone in advance.

Lots of stuff could be causing it.  Here are a few that I can think of.  Are you using a metal nock set?  If so, going to a tie on thread nock set will help.  One way or another, you're getting too much pressure on that finger.  You could be exerting too much pressure yourself.  Could try relaxing it a little as you draw.  Is your drawing arm elbow high?  That tends to put downward pressure on the index finger.  In that case, lowering the elbow should help.  If you have a fairly long draw and a fairly short bow, the angle of the string will tend to push your fingers toward the arrow (finger pinch).  A glove would help with the symptoms, but likely won't clear up the problem.  Hope some of this helps.  Good luck.

Had the same thing, suddenly, to the point where I couldn't shoot. So I started shooting 3-under (which works just fine, even on my split-tillered bows), and haven't changed back.

I just put athletic tape on my fingers until a callous grows there. I lose it every year and have to regrow it when I start shooting a lot again. Gary
