Jack Howard string

Purchased a Gamemaster Jet after years of looking and it has an old Jack Howard string on it I think - appears to be a white braided polyester material in endless construction with red serving. Not any type of string material I’ve ever used. I know Jack had some interesting thoughts on bow construction and materials; assume his strings were much the same. The material appears to be unwaxed. We’re these strings supposed to be dry or is this a product of age? Is there anyone that can make a replacement? This string looks to 25 plus years old. This Jet is a “Last Edition” - riser is typical rosewood but limbs are textured painted camo and decals are over paint so I assume it was built this way??

Btw if anyone has input it’s marked 55lbs - I know Jack had his own way of measuring bow weight but it feels closer to 60 lbs? Is that typical. I will say it’s super smooth and dead in your hand but it’s definitely more than 55 lbs.

Your bow is probably 58+ pounds and that sounds like one of Jacks strings. They do not need to be waxed but you can if you want. Check out Charlie Lamb here on TradGang. He can make you more strings with the same material that Jack used/your string made from.
If you could provide the serial number of your bow? I’m keeping a database of all Jack Howard bows. Thanks and enjoy one of the finest recurves ever built!

As far as I know Jack recommended using only strings made with this material. Otherwise the bow could be quite harsh

Thank you, am guessing your bow was made in 1998.

I'm using B55 on Gamemaster Jet that was modified and repaired, bow shoots divine and I'll say that it may actually be better than the original.

I bought 2 from a gentleman in SE Minnesota, and sold one.
Both came with the same string you described.
Wish I had never sold it, but needed cash for an elk tag. The one
I kept is 52# I believe, and is a dream to shoot - its not going anywhere.
Did I say I should have never sold the other - aaargh!
