This clever looking littly guy is just under 5 feet tall and is 14 years of age, it’s a shorty compared to guys of his age. Because of his skinny appearance and lack of physical strength he is not able to play the regular sports that boys of his age normally play such as soccer, base ball, basket ball etc. Because of his high IQ level he often is/was teased and not accepted in class, resulting in being unconfident and severe problems at school as well as at home.
One day he came across our archery’s club website and got very interested in archery, so he joined our club last year. He started shooting with a simple recurve bow and asked all kind of questions about archery all the time. In this period he got stronger, felt better at school and got more confidence.
He and his dad, who also started with traditional archery, came to visit us at some of the 3-d shoots our group attended and said: This kind of archery is what I want to do, traditional archery!
Early April we went outside to our outdoor range and surprisingly he bought himself a kids compound bow and some of our trad shooters asked him what he is going to do with that bow. He answered: I just want to shoot a compound bow now because it has more speed.
I thought I must do something about this to get him back into trad archery. So I figured I'm going to make him a R/D bow and see what he thinks about shooting with such a bow.
Two weeks ago I started building that bow and this evening (our time, May 7th) I gave him the newly made bow. You should have seen his face when he took it out of the bow sock. He immediately braced the bow, started shooting and enjoyed shooting better than ever before (he did quite well I must say). I took some pics showing the little guy and his new bow. I’m pleased that I could get this boy back into traditional archery. (for the moment)
BTW, the bow specs are: 62” ntn, 30# @28”. Maple riser with an ebony accent at the grip, black glass limbs with maple core. The overlay is made out of white glass with coromandel veneer. The tips are made of white glass and ebony.
