Failure of Bear Take-Dwn Bow

I am posting this in the hope that I can help one of you avoid my problem.  This is NOT intended to disparage the maker!

About 8 arrows through a 12 arrow practice quiver I had a catastrophic failure of my Bear Take-Down bow resulting in the breakage of the lower limb.  Upon detailed inspection after the event I discovered that the limb clamp retainer lever that is supposed to hold the limb clamp closed could not fully engage the limb clamp because the pan-head screw that holds the limb clamp retainer against the spring was either too short or the hole was too deep.  This resulted in the screw head preventing the limb clamp retainer lever from fully engaging the end of the limb clamp.  When I studied this after getting back home there was only about 1/32nd inch engagement when the limb was fully installed and the limb clamp fully seated.  When I backed the pan-head screw out two (2) turns and reinstalled the limb and re-closed the limb clamp the screw head was high enough to allow the limb clamp retainer lever to fully engage the end of the limb clamp.

I know that the Bear Take-Down is a popular bow, used and loved by many, including me.  From now on when I assemble mine I will make doubly sure that the little retaining lever that snaps over the limb clamp is FULLY ENGAGED.

Obviously, my plan to leave next week for a Montana hunt with my Bear Take-Down equipped with the 50 # limbs is not going to happen.  Time for plan C.

Sorry to hear that. Can you take a picture? I'm a bit confused I've been shooting Bear TD's off an on since they came out. My go to for the last 13 yrs. I've had some minor fit issues of limbs and a crack around a the locating hole on a new pair I bought private. Their quality control sure sucks these days.
