New to Traditional and looking for friends.
« on: December 09, 2022, 12:25:03 PM »
Hello everyone! I'm from Michigan and I was wondering if there were other people close by that get together to shoot or know of events where I can meet like minded individuals? I'm already excited about the Kalamazoo Expo so this was a question about other things. Have a great day!

The shoot at Elm Hall is another good one, as is The Stickbow Shoot in Barryton. Stickbow shoot is in July, and Elm Hall is beginig of August.

Hi, Chad. Welcome to the forum. I'm in Muskegon as well. My cabin is in Otto township west of Hesperia. I have a few targets out up there if you ever wanna get together and fling some arrows. I'm usually up that way on weekends year-round.

Welcome Chad.  I am on the other side of the state in Monroe county, but my camp is in Calhoun county.  My nephew is a trad hunter and he is in Plainwell.

We are fortunate in Michigan to have a number of great gatherings, both state and national organizations.  We have nice group of bowyers too.  Many who make very under rated products.  Enjoy the ride.

D.P.

Hey Damon! I would love to meet sometime in a public place if that's ok with you? Hi Dave thanks for the welcome! I've been calling clubs around the area and hopefully I'll be able to join some of our states events in the future.  :jumper:

Welcome!  Tracey and I are down in Branch County.   You live in a great state to be able to connect with people. We have a ton of events here  They start in Late January with the Kalamazoo Trad Expo know about hope to see you there.  February and March our two state Trad organizations have Banquets. Then shoots start in April. If you have not done so already you should look into joining Michigan Traditional Bowhunters and the Michigan Longbow Assoc.

Again Welcome!

Also check out the Muskegon Bowmen club. Great place to shoot. And there are quite a few traditional shooters there.

Welcome!  I am in Middleville, just South of GR.  We are so very blessed to have all of the trad opportunities we have in MI, as stated above.  I am part of a team that runs a traveling 3D outdoor 3D league that runs in the summer.  We shoot five different clubs twice, for a total of a ten-week league and then a championship and banquette at the end.  Many people enjoy it with the opportunity to shoot different courses and see different sets/terrain.  We shoot at Muskegon Bowmen, Coopersville Sportsman's Club, Sparta Hunting and Fishing Club, WMAC in Rockford, and Caledonia Sportsman's Club.  Most are compound shooters, but we usually have 6-8 trad shooters, myself and my daughter included.  Mark

Thanks Bow man! I’m definitely going to Kalamazoo, super excited. I’ve contacted the longbow association but unfortunately right now I only have a recurve and they said I needed a longbow for their events. I’ll look into the other association though, thank you very much!  :notworthy: Hey kstout, I’ve tried calling a few times with no answer but plan to keep at it with the Michigan bowmen. Thank you!  :shaka: Hey MGH, could you get me more details about your group or club? And thank you!

You can search West Michigan 3D League on Facebook to keep informed when we ramp up in the Spring.  We also shoot a traditional only indoor 3D league at Grand Valley Sporting Goods in the winter.  Grand Valley Sporting Goods is on the West end of Allendale, right on M45.  It starts on January 6th and is every Friday night 6:30pm-8pm.  You can stop in there anytime to signup prior to then if interested.  I know there are some guys from the Muskegon area that shoot with us as well that you could meet and possibly get to know.

Foggy, as you can see from the responses you have received, you have come to the right place to find traditional archer friends. A lot of these guys are very knowledgeable archers and hunters, so freely ask questions, and you will get lots of useful information. Welcome aboard.

Hey MGH, I've been to Grand Valley Sporting goods and spoken with bullseye. He set me up with a nocking point and arrows. Is everyone there pretty welcoming during the shoot night? I'd love to go. Hi Sam McMichael!  :wavey: Thank you.
