Is Split finger really 2 Under
« on: July 26, 2022, 09:40:28 AM »
I shoot split finger and I've been paying attention to my anchor and release lately, from what I can tell my top finger is barely on the string and is more of an anchor on my cheek bone. Most of the string pressure, if not all of it is on my bottom 2 fingers.

Dan Toelke has popularized a two finger grip with the middle and ring finger under the nock, and no pressure on the index finger.  I think some people use the index finger to help draw the bow and then take it off the string at full draw.  Anyway, there have been several favorable reports on here from those who use it, and no unfavorable reports that I know of.

However, the method USA Archery advocates is to put most of the pressure on the middle finger, next most on the index finger, and the least amount of pressure on the ring finger whether drawing split finger or three under.

Thank you McDave, I would agree that most of the pressure is on the middle finger with the ring finger as support, although I do need to make an effort to verify it once I am at anchor. I find many times I need to reemphasize it. I am going to try and focusing on the finger pressure in my pre draw stage and see if I am more consistent with it

In Roy Marlow's book "Timeless Bowhunting" finger pressure is a key to consistent accuracy.
