Great Northern Feather Dye - How to?
«

I just bought some Great Northern feather dye and was wondering if there was anyone out there who has used the product and could share their experience(s) as to how to best use the product.

I have and I followed the directions. It worked rather well, and I would use it again in a heartbeat. I even lost a few arrows under the snow, and didnt find them until spring-color never faded. Good product, and the directions are easy.

I guess I need to clarify my request - I have the product but not instructions. If you could educate me as to how to use the dye I would appreciate it. Thanks.

a gallon of water heated to a boil, cup of vinager, add the packet of dye, stir it with a paint stick. Throw the feathers in till the desired color, wash them under cold water and lay out to dry. Once dry, fletch them up. I used a gallon of distilled water, so once I was done I put the colored water back into the jug to save it for next time.

I don't think that it is supposed to be boiling. I thought that it was just to be hot. Hap

Whole feather? Before or after grinding/stripping? Any residue to affect glue if after grinding? Any experience appreciated.

I did the whole feathers and had no issues with glue up. You can re-use it like stated above. I would recommend distilled water(directions do) so that it is pure. Vinegar and heat, you are all set.

Directions say distilled water and 170 degree temp when the feathers are in it.Some claim it's nothing more than Rit dye. I dion't know and won't speculate. But it sure works good. I tried some odds and ends feather pieces in the stuff cold and it won't work well at all, so 170 deg it is.
