Am I stuck with a “Long” bow?
« on: November 26, 2022, 09:37:17 PM »
I’ve recently gotten into shooting a recurve.  I tried to shoot my 64” bow in my Primos Double Bull blind and I just couldn’t make it work. I was hitting the ceiling or the ground and just couldn’t cant it enough. I have a 30.5” draw so I’m under the impression that I have to have a longer bow like this. Are there shorter recurves like a 52” or 54” or even a 58” that guys with long arms can shoot smoothly without stacking or am I doomed to stay out of the blind with the trad bow. Thanks for your answers.

One option is to raise your blind...put legs on it or set it up on logs or what Evers available.

And or go with a 62 inch recurve for ur long dl...they are considerably shorter than ur 64 inch long bow

Get out of the blind. Be mobile, be still. Your not stuck with a long bow, your stuck with a blind.

There are lots of bows that you can use inside a blind.. but, if you have a tiny blind, it may still be difficult.

I have a 32" draw length and have no difficulty shooting from a blind with my 58" longbow (Thunderchild) or my 60" 50's style recurve (Mountain monarch).  I do prefer the big mike blinds as they are a bit taller.

I have 2 double bulls.  I can shoot my 58" longbow out of them if I'm very careful how high my seat is, back against the far wall, etc.
I prefer my Big Mike's as well.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

I have always preferred the recurve to the longbow for short bows, primarily because the only reason I would use a short bow is for hunting in situations where movement is restricted, and there are going to be a couple of inches more clearance with a recurve than a longbow of a given length.  I have tried several short bows over the years, but the only one I’ve kept is my Robertson Wolfer.  It is a beautifully made bow, with an offset design particularly suited to canting the bow, which again is particularly suited to situations where there are restrictions on movement.  The 58” Wolfer is rated for draw lengths out to 30”, but in his descriptions of the bow, Dick rates it out to 31”, and I’m reasonably certain it wouldn't stack at your 30.5” draw length.  In any situation that I would likely be using this bow, I would probably be packing it in disassembled, and the bow bolt system is the most dependable way I’ve found for reliably and quickly taking a bow apart and putting it back together.  It's sort of spendy, but in this case I think you get what you pay for.

Ditto.  I've never owned a blind and have only hunted out of one 2 times.  I almost always hunt on the ground with my ghillie suit.  All my bows are 66" - never have an issue.

As mentioned above you can prop your blind up to make the cieling taller.

If I had your draw length and wanted a shorter bow I would be looking for a bow with a shorter riser and forward set handle and good deflex in the riser.Recurve or longbow in 56 to 58 inches.Toelke Pika is one similar to the Thunderchild and thier are others

Bows similar to the one Big Jim recommended above like his Thunderchild.

I have used a Bear T/D 58" in blinds and have a 30 1/2 draw, also shoot a 62" longbow with no problems. Are you using a chair or shooting off your knees? The height of your chair can make a big difference.

Just get yourself something like the Barronett Big Mike and use your 64" recurve. It is not the same quality as your double bull but I really like them. I think I paid something like $129 not long ago from a sale on Midway USA. Shoot the longer bow that you like with comfort and room to spare. I have 4 of them now.

Ditto on the Barronett Big Mike blind I shoot a 64" Longbow with no problem.
