Looking for a Outfitter to hunt hogs in the Southeast.
« on: December 09, 2022, 04:23:25 PM »
Ok friends - give me some advice on hog hunting in SC.  I live in the Charlotte area and would like it to be within driving distance.  Could be GA, or even north FL.  I'm looking for an outfitter preferably, but not looking to spend an arm and a leg to do it.  (I know, I know... the wish list may be tough to fill).

I'd like to hear about your experiences and/or recommendations on a good outfit that does a good job.  Never been hog hunting and really want to make it happen and help fill the freezer with some pork!  I'd be looking to maybe have 3 to 4 people in my group.

Let me know your thoughts and advice.  Thanks!

I can personally recommend Greg.  I've hunted with him multiple times.  In fact i will be duck hunting with him in the morning.

You will learn at lot about hog hunting with Greg and his sons.  If you have a chance, tour his fathers trophy room.

Rastman- Randy I think we not hunted with Greg on same day.  I believe you almost stepped on a small copperhead at some point during the day.

And what is your point there David P ?  I think most of us here realize the WMA's in the southeast have a big population of hogs.  A 3 day hunt to come to an out of state WMA without knowing where to start can be a futile and frustrating endeavor.  These guys asked about an outfitter for hogs not a DIY WMA hunt.  And if you've never hunted hogs before it's good to have someone that can show you the way.
If you didn't have better advice to give you shouldn't have posted.  It was borderline offensive to me.

You were talking to traditional Bowhunters here. And yes I can find a hog.  These guys were looking for an outfitter that had hogs. If these guys have never hog hunted an outfitter is a good choice to learn how to hunt hogs especially the guy that was recommended to them. Your post came across as kind of condescending.  Yes I could put them on a WMA in Georgia that has lots of hogs. The guy that was recommended to them could teach and show them more about hog hunting in those 3 days that maybe the next time they go, it would be to a WMA to hunt on their on. And maybe it’s just me but your post to me was a bit condescending. People do pay to go hunt whether it be for hogs, deer, turkeys, bear, or whatever. You missed the point of my post.

Im interested in doing some hog hunting,, spot n stalk no baiting and hand holding..... I hunted with ray hammond i dont think he is doing it anymore.   I found hunting hogs un baited spot and stalk was pretty hard they have good ears and noses.   My thing was trying to sneak in on them in their wallows or mud holes mid day..... darn snakes and fire ants, wasps and those friggin baby alligators spooking and almost making me jump out of my boots.....  keep this thread going im looking for stickbow guides only that wont look at me stupid when i say how i want to do it!!!!  You local hunters / semi-guides lmk..

Jerry Russell of Russell Outdoor Guides  caters to traditional guys/gals in Georgia.  I don't know if he offers spot and stalk or just stand hunting.  Two WMAs that i can recommend in Ga. are Chickasawhatchee WMA below Albany and Fort Stewart military base which is huge.  They both have thriving hog populations.  Fort Stewart is broken up into units and they have a harvest map showing the number of kills in each unit thru 2021 which can give you a headstart on where to go.  Be prepared to walk a lot in either place. The Traditional Bowhunters of Ga are holding their southern zone hog hunt at Ft. Stewart Feb. 17-19.  It would be worth joining to go to that hunt.  There will be some guys there that know the area quite well and could save some miles of searching on your on. Good luck in your search.

Someone needs to do a Google search and see what the going rate is for a hog hunt in the southeast.  Seems like $400-500 per day is about right.  Some include lodging, some don’t.  Most will only let you kill 1 or 2 pigs without paying extra.  I hunted a few times with Greg over 30 years ago.  His property has a lot of pig and is very conducive for still hunting.  He knows hogs as well as anyone.
