Bear takedown #1 limb 30” draw?

Hello,

Going to get another set of limbs.  I have both an A and B riser currently and one set of #3 limbs 47/45lb from the factory.  Would like something as small as practically possible for hunting.  The A with the #3 is working, so wondering if I can go even smaller? 

Looking for opinions on if an A riser #1 limb at 42/40lb factory weight would be pushing the envelope a little too hard for my draw length of 30?”

Unfortunately, trying a #1 limb prior to buying is not a practical option for me.

Having shot bear T/d's since 1971 and having had several sets of limbs I've found most of them go up 3-4# with every inch of draw past 28. An A handle with #1 limbs would be 56" so I think you can figure on them being 48-52# at 30. I shot 32" on B handles and my limbs were always 12-15# higher.

It is pushing the envelope, but I think it is doable.  I use an A riser with no.1 limbs for hunting out of a blind for turkeys.  Though my draw length is 28 inches, I sometimes draw the bow to 30 inches or so, and it seems to handle it OK.  You will get some stacking, as Seeker points out.  Finger pinch might be a more troublesome/annoying problem.  But, if you only plan to use it for hunting, you won't be shooting it that much, and it shouldn't be a problem.  And if it doesn't work out, you can always use the limbs on your B riser. 

You might also consider splitting the difference.  Bear is making no.2 limbs again, and there are older no.2 limbs available.  that will make a 58-inch bow on an A riser.

Not saying you cant do #1s.You might do okay with those and like them.You might really like them alot possibly.

You will get more finger pinch and not as smooth feeling at the backend.If you got skinnier fingers that take up less string (vs thicker fatter digits) and if you got a really clean release that would help with the finger pinch and getting the string off cleanly.

But if I was buying more expensive new limbs at your draw length I would would opt for the #2 limbs and a 58 inch bow on the A.The #2s make a really nice 62 inch bow on your B riser as well.58" is still a pretty short bow

Seeker, where are you from? Maybe someone nearby would have limbs for you to try.

IMO, they would be too short for your long draw on an A riser.

That said, many prefer the B riser with #1 limbs at 60” instead of the A with #3’s.

You might be ok with it. I tried #1 limbs on an A handle for turkeys out of a pop up. My draw is just under 31", and I just didn't shoot it well at all. Quite a bit of stacking and likely some finger pinch as well. I went back to 60-64" bows...a world of difference. Good luck.

That’s a lot of draw length for a 56” takedown. #2 or #3 limbs is what I’d recommend for such a long draw length.

I shoot an A riser and #1 limbs 56” with my 28” draw and it’s fine for hunting, but then again in not shooting a 30” draw.

I guess I'll never get it.

I've been shooting an A riser with the short limbs at 60# and another set at 50# for a decade or so drawing 29.5 inches.  I've never had a problem.  I guess I'm missing something.  I'm going to start looking for a problem the next time I shoot my Bear TD.

Works for some.  That's why he's considering it.  Some folks are more sensitive to stack and finger pinch than others.
