freaking out!

this has happpend to me twice!! just a few minutes ago and about a week ago. i'm still new and learning so take it easy on me. these stringers with leather caps on both ends are DANGEROUS. should of bought the other kind but i didn't know what i was doing when i bought it. the problem is that the leather on the bottom covers the nock area, and the only way to see if the string is still in the right grove is to remove the stringer. so if it's not, you got to QUICKLY and CAREFULLY try to get the leather piece back on and take the pressure back off. well twice now i have had the string slip down the limb while it was strung up. it first happend about a week ago and i shot a bunch yesterday. i don't see any physical damage and everything sounded ok. well it just happened again. sureely there's not enough pressure to do any serious damage....right???? i mean it's not like i'm dry firing. there's not that much pressure on the limbs. please tell me that everything is going to be ok.

I used to fold up paper in the pocket for my upper limb so the tip didn't settle so far into the pcoket and I could see the nock grooves when I was stringing the bow.

Yep paper or plastic or leather... you get the idea. Only to the point of revealing the nock grooves under pressure of stringing. Also using 2 feet on the stringer helps keep it out of the way. But be careful as to not over fill so it doesn't pop out and take your eye.

the first time this happend my ribs took the brunt of the "explosion". left a big red welp and was sore for many days. this last one took the full force. i'm thinking maybe i should have the loop hole served a little tighter, so it's a more snug fit? that's is assuming everything is going to be ok.

sounds like a good idea, but you still can't see the bottom to make sure it's riding in the groove.

And make sure you check the attachment of the leather cap. I had one come off and the limb smacked me just above the eye. Gave me a real shiner and twisted the limb! I was blessed it didn't take out my eye-it very easily could have.

Check to make sure that the string stays in the groove after the shot. It's very possible to twist the limb doing that. Hap

The bow should be fine. I have to say, I use a leather stringer and have done from the start without any problems!

The bow should be fine. At your first opportunity, though, you should get a Selway type stringer with a rubber block that rides on the limb, instead of two pockets. I got rid of my old stringer as soon as I could, and have used the Selway from the moment I found they existed. Gonna get another one this weekend at Baltimore, 'cause I believe in backup, and I keep giving them to new shooters. :D

What killdeer said.
The selway type is the safest and best.

Killdeer is right. The selway type stringer is best, and easiest to use.
Get one. You will like it once you try it.

Bag those things and get a stringer with a rubber block on one end...

put rubber band around string at bottom limb- wont let string out of the string groves. dont need to see in the pocket.
