New to me Black Widow--- Building and Arrow
« on: March 24, 2023, 10:30:53 AM »
Hey Everyone, Looking for advice/thoughts on an arrow

I have just purchased a new to me Black Widow PSA X Honduran Rosewood I am very excited and just cant stop looking at it  :notworthy:

Specs are

PSA-X 60" 45 lbs @28"

I draw 27.5" when I shoot with proper form. I would say I am more consistently 27"

I really like and have used Black Eagle Vintage Arrows, I found them to be tough and consistant. I was on the 3 Rivers Spine Calculator and did my best to make a match, I am looking for your thoughts on my arrow specs if your willing. I will be hunting Whitetail and Black Bear and I am open to something different, heavier, lighter etc. Let me know what you think or what you would do.
Keep in mind my access to arrow building equipment is limited so I will be ordering to fit/cut from 3 Rivers

Black Eagle Vintage 500 Spine 29.5" Arrow 50 grain brass insert and 125 grain head at 27" Draw

Arrow weight 447
GPP 10.5
FOC 17.2
FPS 177.4
Ft/LBs 31.2

Pretty much the exact same set up as I have. I shoot the GT 3555s with 175 heads but draw more like 28 1/2 inches on my 45 lb PSAX. If anything you might need a little more weight head.

That should work fine.  If you don't want 2 1/2 inches of arrow beyond the bow, could shorten it a bit.  May work that way with 200 grains up front or may have to add a little more point weight. Might be worth experimenting when you have the shafts in hand.

I shoot a Widow PTF, 46#@28". I draw a touch under 27" and with my hand-held bow scale, I am getting 43#. I am shooting an Easton 6.5 carbon that measures 28" from the throat of the nock to the end of the shaft with a 12 grain insert and a 250 grain point. This set up bare shafted well for me and I fletched with 3-4" parabolic feathers. Finished weight is right at 500 grains. I have shot 3 whitetails with the bow and arrow combination and had pass thoughs on all three.

Hey everyone I appreciate your input. From what I can see most recommend a heavier arrow or point weight.

I did have some arrows that I had at home and made some adjustments to them, let me know what you think of this set up.

Gold Tip Traditional Classic 400 Spine 30.5" Arrow 100 grain insert and 100 grain broadhead according to the spine chart this is darn near perfect. I have shot it and they seem to fly really well.

Arrow 570.6 grains
GPP 13.4
FOC 15.6
Ft/Sec 158.8
Ft/Lbs 31.9
