Shipping bows UPS
« on: April 01, 2023, 06:49:40 AM »
Just a heads up. I recently shipped a one peice bow by UPS. I built a wooden box for the bow and put that inside a cardboard box. Shipping cost wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. I insured it for $700 , the attendant mentioned that anything insured for over $100 had to be double boxed before UPS would Honor the warranty. This is just FYI, I can see someone getting surprised that UPS wouldn’t pay for a damaged item because it wasn’t double boxed. He also mentioned it was a good idea to take pictures of the item before boxing it.

I shipped a recurve using the UPS they make for shipping ski's and that worked great. A bit expensive overall but a solid package. Also My package was delivered in one day compared to USPS which took 6 days to cover the same distance.

This is reassuring, compared to the horror stories in the recent thread on USPS started by Crooked Stik.

I just received a bow shipped through UPS. Only a small hole in the box, and no damage to the bow. 3 days from New Mexico to Idaho.

I was sweating it the entire time, but it all went well.

I had one busted almost in half at the arrow shelf sight window. All phenolic riser.Sent UPS

Anyway the man who shipped it to me had to file the claim. He did not take pics.So I took pics of the box, packaging materials, the bows damage etc and sent them to him to help with his claim. He did get his refund eventually.

Quite frankly a bow can be damaged by any carrier.I dont think any treat them with velvet gloves. Its a crapshoot!

If you want help getting your claim.Pack well, have pics of how it was packaged and the materials used to protect it.
