Depends on the surgery.  If you have a torn cuff the rehab takes alot longer.  If you have a torn labrum the rehab is shorter and you should be ready to rock and roll.  Bonebuster is right....listen to the doc and do exactly what he says. A friend 6 months ago did not heed his doc's advice and retore the repaired shoulder.

Your age and how well you abide by the physio will go along way to determining the speed and success of your recovery.
Physio is likely more important than the surgery in the first place.
I have had 2 rotator cuff surgeries and 1 broken shoulder from a fall. Be a little patient, set realistic goals, and you will do fine.

Don't know your exact situation, but mine was pretty bad and I was able to elk hunt the second week of Sept. after surgery in April.  Set a goal, be diligent about rehab and there is a good chance you can make it.

I had shoulder surgery and was back doing everything I wanted to do sooner than I expected, because I did exactly what the doctor told me to do. Rehab and building back strength are two different things, In MHO it is better to miss a season of hunting because you are working your way back as the doc orders, than to miss two or more seasons because you tried to get back too soon and need more than one surgery as a result. Listen to the doc. I was glad I did.

First surgery, I was back in a couple months.  Tore evrything back out of the same shoulder by starting too soon.  econd time waited a few months before going full bore.  Shoulder is still doing fine.
Take it slow and do the rehab.  Better for you in the long run.

Yep, listen to the Doc and go to rehab. The Doc allowed me to start shooting a 35# bow as part of my rehab plan, after a couple months of therapy, but made it clear that I was to stop shooting as soon as the pain became intense and sharp.

Take it slow and do not be in a rush to get back into the field unless you are absolutely ready. Better to miss some or all of a season than have to go back for more surgery and miss more.

Had the same surgery 4 weeks ago.Bone spurs and clean up the joint and tendons.I'm 54. Started PT last week.Watch out for the meds. They make you feel better than you are.Don't push it. It will come back and bite you.
With 4 months recovery time you should be good to go. Good luck

Hi, I had shoulder surgery 9 weeks ago - had 10mm removed from the end of my colar bone. Still got some general pain and can not think about drawing a bow yet. Hoping to try a light poundage bow in another 3-4 weeks may be?? Good luck. Phill in Oz

I had shoulder surgery 10-01-07. It was for bone spurs and to remove a small section of the a/c joint. It was the open procedure. I started shooting 35 lbs. 8 weeks after surgery and was shooting 45 lbs. by mid December. I did not have a rotator cuff tear. It was about 6 months for a full recovery but I was able to shoot before that. Don't push it and if it hurts don't do it.

Have had 3 shoulder surgeries, 2 on bow arm and other on draw arm. Labrum and rotator tears in each. Please take it SLOWLY, following Dr's orders and adhere to the strict regimen of the PT. All should go well if you heed their advice and follow the prescribed rehab.Talk with therapist about your goals of hunting in late Sept.He will have a better idea once rehab has started if this is an obtainable goal. DO NOT IGNORE THE HOMEWORK PART OF REHAB. Recovery back to full strength and mobility WILL NOT be accomplished in 2 or 3 sessions a week with therapist. It will require discipline on your part. Good luck to you and hope you are back in the game come late Sept.

Don't know about shoulder, but I destroyed my bow arm elbow in February. Surgery and 100 days later, I'm just starting to shoot a 15lb recurve. BTW, if you need a really light bow to start, I should be done with these by then.
Is it too late to be what I could have been?

It depends on the surgurey, what part of the shoulder.  Rotar cuff, labrium, tighten loose legements, repair damage to joint etc.  Most instances it would appear (if you are religious with your rehab) you could be back by fall.

As a boy I shot right handed but shoot left now. I am 55.
I had left shoulder surgery for the first time in 1986 due to the major pectoral tendon detaching from an unrelated injury. That was long to rehab.
In Feb. 2006 I had surgery again to remove bone spurs, shave the collarbone a little, (in essence as the surgeon said to clean it up).
I was back to shooting and hunting by mid May but was careful. My left is my good shoulder now.
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.
