Sand piles are great. Effortless to pull arrows and you can use paper targets layed on the surface tack down the corners with coat hanger wire.

Have built numerous BH targets over the years.

Easily the best I have constructed, consisted of 3D club throw away targets. Most of the actual target has seen little to no use. Section the old 3D targets with a reciprocating saw… cut to fit tight within an old dock float box. Then pour a post foam, from Lowes, to fill in the small gaps. May have $30 in it….has been beaten hard by my wheelie hunters and has absorbed 100’s of my own traditional BH tipped arrows…same target is still in fine shape after two full seasons of abuse…have owned several commercial BH targets…none have lasted more than a 1/10th as long.

Large but still portable...

Back in the day, before everyone switched to 3D targets, most clubs had sand bunkers for broadhead shoots.  They hung cardboard animal silhouette targets from horizontal wires strung in front of the bunkers.  The arrow passes through the cardboard and is stopped in the sand.  Still the best way to do it, IMO.

Compressed bail at Tractor supply. Even covered with shrink wrap and good in the weather until you shoot it up.

Interesting suggestions.

I can't support trac supply any longer due to what they support.
