The Centaur Super Curve Post???
« on: July 10, 2023, 09:39:59 AM »
I ran out of time to post on it yesterday and now it's gone.  Heck, I have no clue what happened to it.

It didn't have any replies when I saw it near the top.....

Anyway, here's my post...

I own one of Centaur's longbows, and I have shot two of Joe Tilfords.  They are great bows for sure and I would recommend them all day long. I can't find any negatives for this bow, just like all the other bows that are keepers for me.....

If I was interested in a Super Curve, I would shoot one 1st to see how it compared to my longbow. Now shooting one 1st my be tricky as I don't know how you would go about that.

I had an opportunity to shoot Borders super curve several times at 3D shoots, and the best part of the experience was the draw. These things have a very special draw cycle that gives the archer a feeling of a let off in draw weight…. Other than that draw, I was pretty disappointed how much those hooks bounced around after the shot…. But being a bowyer myself the engineering was pretty impressive.

I didn’t know Centaur was building a super hook until now… His limb design looks different than other super curve designs I’ve seen with more of a static tip. It resembles some of the horn bows and Mongolian bows I’ve seen at full draw.

You’ll have to let us know what you think if you get your hands on one of these. I wouldn’t mind shooting one of these myself. Jim makes some really nice bows.

I agree with both above.  Shoot it an see.  That is a LOT of money to put out without knowing.  I am not knocking Centaur bows at all as I would recommend that for any bow that is of that ranking in dollar amount.

If I ran across one, I would surely want to shoot it to see if I like it. Centaur longbows are great, and I suspect that the super curves are spectacular.

At 78 (almost) the super curve has an appeal for me. Less draw weight but get performance like a bow say 10# heavier but could use same arrows. I admit I am reluctant to hunt with less than 45# bow for our deer and Javelin here. Hopefully more will chime in and give us more info especially in regards to taking game.

Gunner, I don't know about 10# heavier, that is a big Jump.

I would call Jim and ask him what the difference in FPS is between his longbow and recurve all things being equal.  He has told me before but I can't recall exactly what he said, but I know if wasn't a 10# difference.  Probably is 10#s difference in his curve and an HH. ;)

Jim Neaves said that his super curve required a stiffer arrow at the same poundage as his tripple carbon Centaur. So it probably stores more energy and delivers it to the arrow.

I had quite a few of his longbows. My last one was a 60 inch tripple carbon.I had one of his super curves that was 58 inches I bought second hand. The performance was impressive!Very cool looking bow.Its hot looking.

The curve had alot of preload!Obviously more preload than the longbow. The preload creates alot of performance and smoothes out at the end of the draw.Personally I do not love all the preload on a bow.I like to start of easier and build the tension to full draw. Some would not mind it and some would not care either way.So that was just me and what I like and feels comfortable to me.Not a critisism.

I think I would get the 60 incher over the 58" if I was to order one.

It could be a great companion to the longbow as you could match the grip and have an easy transtion from one to the other!

A friend had one of the curves custom made in a 60 incher not long ago.He has had alot of bows.He is very pleased with the super recurve.Your mileage may vary

The bow would require a higher spine that most bows ii the same poundage.I think its centershot.I think a heavier grain arrow would be my choice out of that bow.

My longbow and supercurve had a solid dark matter riser.I would like that material for that bow personally.
