Took me a second to process my arrow going in 2 different directions. Now I remember why I liked aluminum. Check those carbon shafts and wear your arm guard.

😳 I just switched from aluminum to carbon this season. I hope I don’t experience any failures like that!

That's unfortunate. I've been shooting carbons since 1991 and haven't ever experienced a failure like that. I do occasionally break a carbon shaft due to hitting stuff like rocks or rebar (in 3D targets). I regularly flex my shafts to make sure there aren't hairline cracks. I

Had one of the early carbon arrows (Graphflex) do that to me. Asked my brother to look and see it the arrow was sticking out of my arm, it wasn't, arm looked much like pic above. Made a wood arrow believer out of me.

When flexing them make sure to grab them clean back the nock and close to the point. I bounced one of some rocks at a 3D and grabbed it around the feathers and flexed it. The next shot the last two inches of fletching was stuck in my thumb. Luckily the wrap folded inside of the shaft and I didn't get carbon fibers in the wound. Wrapped a hankie around my hand and thumb, but talk about being 'bow' shy on the next targets.

Michael,
It can happened with wood also. Not as dangerous as carbon perhaps but it sure got my attention when a POC 60/65 exploded when I released it from a 55# bow. Fortunately, I only got a bad scratch on the back of my hand. But pieces of the arrow went flying every which way.

Any time I hear the whack of an arrow hitting another I do a very close inspection before shooting them again.

Oh, I've had it happen with woodies, as well. Not yet with tapered, footed woodies. I think they are about the toughest arrows I've seen. Fingers crossed!!!

Yes, there was something wrong with that arrow.. but those shafts haven't been made in over ten years.. I would question how many thousands of shots might have been in them before this happened. Certainly not a factory flaw. Also very unlikely an aluminum would have lasted that long without being damaged.
I may shoot some wood arrows from time to time, but I would never go back to aluminum! but to each their own.

Yes Tim, I knew better. On the last shot before the arrow shattered, I’m sure I heard a little “click” when the arrow hit the target. I should have inspected the arrow better.. good lesson learned.
