Great afternoon hunt
« on: January 15, 2024, 11:07:09 PM »
I had a mate drop in on his way home to North Queensland and we went out with our kids for a quick afternoon hunt. We were targeting rabbits but I told the kids that if we're lucky we might see a fox and that if we're really lucky we might see a pig.

I was willing to play guide for my mate and let him do the shooting since he doesn't get rabbits and foxes where he lives.
It started well and he connected with 3 rabbits using his compound. We then reached a creek and decided to have a whistle for a fox. We did that and after 5 mins of not seeing anything my mate whistled at me to tell me he saw some pigs.

This changed our plan straight away. They were out of sight by this stage and we moved down the creek to get the wind right and slowly moved in hoping to see them again.

We spilt up a bit to cover more ground and my son Alex spotted a fox in the creek and alerted my mate. He stalked it a short distance and was perched on high ground on a boulder and waited for the fox to present a shot. When it did, he let go an accurate shot and the it somersaulted and ran towards him and died in front of him. We were all on a high at this point.

Then we spotted 3 young pigs. They were moving up the creek quite fast so we had to move quickly to have a chance of getting a shot.

They were appearing and disappearing in the grass tussocks in the creek bed and the stiff breeze was perfect so I was able to get close pretty easily. Then one appeared from behind a tussock at 5 yards or so and I let fly with a quick shot with a Simmons treeshark. The little boar didn't go far with 2 big holes in him.

It capped off a great afternoon with the kids.

Great to get your with the kids!

You Done Good…..really Good!
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Good hunting to you all.
May the wind be your friend, and may your arrows fly true,
Most of all, may the appreciation and the gratitude of what we do keep us humble......
