string slap on armguards.
« on: February 16, 2007, 04:36:00 PM »
How to quiet this?  I am trying out longbows for the first time, and I have never needed a armguard before.  I found out I do need one for a longbow, and although I am shooting pretty good with it, the string is constantly slapping the armguard.  Any suggestions?

Put more bend in your bow arm and/or raise the brace height.  May help to reposition your wrist/grip a little as well.  If you currently have your wrist directly behind the grip, might try rotating it to the side just a little

what Orion said
you have to hold your arm with the proper amount of bend or flex or you are gonna smack yourself. If I am not incorrect a low brace hieght will slap you to.
If it is the bend in your elbow you will know soon enough
If it wasn't for Hillary Blackburn I may have never found my way to the woods and the water.I miss you Puppy.Love from your grandson.

Also could check your bow arm elbow and see if the elbow is pointing down, this rotates the arm closer to string, keeping it more out to the left (right handed) may help
shoot straight shoot often

I also found that if I open my stance just a little, it will help me keep my bow arm where it should be.
