Is This Normal fps for Arrow speed On A Bob Lee ?

I have Bob Lee "Hunter" the setup is;
 
56"AMO 43# @ 29"

My arrow setup is; 435 Gr. total arrow weight, 125 gr. upfront Axis 500's with
5" feather with left helical.

My arrow speed is 189 fps.

Is this normal, and can I improve on that, I know I can go with the heavier arrow for more kinetic energy, the kinetic energy on this arrow is about 34.51, to me that sounds low.

Increasing weight won't increase KE in any substantial because you'll lose speed, which is why it isn't the best way to choose a set-up. It will increase momentum though which is more important to penetration. You have plenty to kill any whitetail with that set-up. Arrow speed is actually excellent/high side assuming the trap is right.

I think I will leave the arrow  selection the way it is, I may change the target tip to 100 grain just to see what it will do.  And how then arrow flies.  That would only be going down 25 gr.

I do have to adjust the B/H a little more, right now it's set at 7" and I'm getting a little more noise then I want, but I think that's because it's not adjusted all the way,  Rob recommends 7 1/4.  I do have bush buttons on the string, and limb savers string leeches.  I do not want to put anything on the limbs like limb savers or anything.  I want to try and keep it is clean as possible.

I have a Lee TD Hunter that's 53#28" (I draw 28.5).  Haven't had an opportunity to chronograph it but would guess it's in the high 180's/low 190's with the 525 grain arrows I use...

I have a 54' Bob Lee hunter 46# @28 at my draw its about 43# I'm shooting carbons that weigh out at 415gr just under 10gpp they fly fast and I have no reservations about hunting deer and other game with it.

I would say from FPS I have seen posted and my chronograph experiene

That is one quick bow at the weight and shooying 10 grains per pound

Seems like most of the bow reports tests chronograph at 9 grains per pound which could in crease noise a little

I checked a number times, thinking that that was awful fast, I asked the other guys that were using the wheel bows that have checked their fps on the Chrono, and they said it was pretty accurate, there was one fellow that said it was 6 ft. slow.

But if you look at my feet per second, it should be about the same as the 53 pounder, because the difference in the weight of the Arrow 100 grains between yours and mine.

I sure am pleased with the Bob Lee recurve "Hunter" and I do plan on taken it hunting, it is my only bow, I think I may get another set limbs for it 45#.


Now I have to work a little bit on the noise factor, it's not all that bad but I think once I adjust the brace ht.  It'll be OK.

Had some time today and wanted to check out and see what kind of speed these bows have in them.

Bow # 1 is a Morrison 60" Cheyenne Take down recurve. Bow is marked 52# @ 29" and scaled right on that.I draw 29 1/2"and scaled in at 54#.


Bow #2 is a 54" Bob Lee Dark Archer one Piece recurve. Bow is marked 44# @ 28" and at my draw is 50# @ 29 1/2".
 

I used the same arrows for this and they are 30" 2018 ith 4-5"feathers with 125 gr. points.
I shot 5 arrows each and this is what I got.

I don't know if I proved anything but was fun anyway. As for bow preformance the Bob Lee seems to be a smoother shooter as is very stable and almost no shock at all and a little quietier and this is without any string silencers on it.

I just talked to Rob at Bob Lee archery, he says those figures are pretty normal.  I also talked to him about ordering 47# limbs.  In the signature line style.  They are only about $70 more than "Hunter".  He said it would take it up above 200 fps, and I could also kick up my arrow wt. to 500 gr.  With pretty much the same results.

I have never been more pleased with a bow, he also said if I take my brace ht.  Up to about
7 1/4" to 7 1/2" it be set up just about right.
