Face camo options - paint, gaiters, masks...?
« on: April 17, 2024, 12:41:57 PM »
Hey all -
heading out to the turkey woods tomorrow and I'll be sporting my typical face paint for concealment as that's the only face camo option I've used in 40+ years of hunting. I don't always use face camo but when I'm on the ground and close I've done charcoal, mud in a pinch, different brands of paint... Currently using Carbo Mask products and I like them. But I've been considering other options that are easier to put on or off as needed, don't require reapplication, and are less messy to clean up.
Looking for thoughts on what works best for you guys... interested in something that won't interfer with shooting a bow first, comfort and other considerations also appreciated.
Randy

I use a very tight nylon mask with the eyes and nose area open, then my rabbit fur Akubra Banjo Patterson hat to shade my face.

I will use a mask occasionally, but I go through a ton of camo face paint. My standard.

The guys at ShrewHaven laugh at me because my face stays painted for 10 days at a time :biglaugh:

I use camo mosquito netting that I sewed into my boonie had, or a camo mosquito netting head net that I wear under my hat.  Walking in, between set ups, etc, I just roll the netting out of the way under my hat.  I use enough material that when set up, I can tuck the bottom of the netting into my shirt around the collar.  No cut outs.  It's easy enough to see through the netting.  Doesn't affect my shooting, but some might find it a bit distracting.

I recently bought 2 HooRags which were on sale for $5 a piece. They fit snug to your face and I have the same anchor as when I have face paint on so there working great. Got them in mossy oak Bottomland.

Sometimes I used burned cork..but 99% last year I used a olive drab color military mosquito net made for a boonie hat..it is like a tube of sorts with elastic at each opening the hat sticks through the top of the net that's sealed around the crown with the aforementioned elastic..the thing I really like about it is that I can just grab the top and pull it down to just leave my eyes exposed while still keeping the rest of my face covered.. Keeps the blood helicopters away from the ears and neck..I can shoot fine with my mouth corner anchor, right through the net..And I can hang out completely sideways like this..lol
