Little checks in Cocobolo?
« on: June 04, 2024, 02:41:10 PM »
Anyone ever notice little surface checks in cocobolo? They're not deep, just kinda ugly. I didn't notice them being so prevalent on the last riser I did.

I’ve got a bit of the same thing going on with a piece of ebony I bought a little worried about these cracks there about 3/8 to 1/2 an inch into a 2 1/4 inch block. There is black ca but it might not penetrate as well as the thin because I believe it’s medium viscosity 🤷 did I waste $160 ?, crazy expensive wood I’m not sure why I bought it … we would rarely ever see that wood here so I couldn’t help myself.  :knothead:

Sideways pic again  :dunno:

I would not try to fill them without the water thin CA that will wick down in the check. And let it cure with no accelerator.

2 X on this method…. That water thin CA application is the way to go. Just apply it several times and let it soak into the cracks until they fill. Then do it again after you have shaped your riser… you won’t need color added. They will disappear….  Now YOU may be able to see the filled crack…because you know it’s there. But nobody else will will see it, and it will hold.     Kirk
