Nock fit

How does nock fit effect tune? I recently made a new bow string (my first one) and I've a nock high I can't get rid off. My nocks seem a little tight. Could this be the issue?

If you were able to shoot nock level with the old string, one would have to think the new string and/or nock fit might have something to do with the nock high.  I wouldn't recommend this as a permanent solution, but you could file one of your nocks to fit, and see if you can get nock level flight out of the new string using the filed nock, and if you can, then re-serve that string with smaller diameter serving to fit the standard nock size.

Yeah I'm shooting the same exact arrow and nock set up at of the bow I have been the last 2 years. I did make a 16 strand string I'm wondering if the one that I had made previously was a 12 or 14 strand.

What is the poundage of your bow?

53# @28 but I draw a about 29.5 or so

I use a needle file or folded sandpaper over a toothpick to get the nock to just hold the arrow with the bow held horizontally with the arrow downward.  If I tap the string it should fall off.

OK I'll try that. Mine are taking a decent whack to get free.

I have done the same as Stumpkiller and have never broke a nock, but as McDave said it’s probably not the best solution.

If you're drawing 56-57#, a 14 strand string should be adequate, so that is an option. OTOH, I can't argue with a 16 strand string either, in which case you should probably re-serve one size down.

Awesome thanks for all the information. My plan is to sand one nock see if it fixes the issue. If it does I'll try a 14 strand while I'm waiting on smaller diameter serving to show up.

Heat your nock up slightly and work it on and off your serving a few times. Your nock will stretch a little and if you go too much, heat it up again and pinch it closed a little. It’s not likely the bottom of the nock is too tight but rather the “wings”.

Sure does. If your nocks don’t come off clean it can mess up flight for sure. When you make your string find out the diameter you need for that specific nock.

I get the best release with GT nocks.  But I am now shooting Easton Aftermaths so I have to use their nocks.  It's a 6mm shaft so nothing else works.  I have never been able to get a result when I tried to open up the groove in the nock.

I shoot aae plastinocks. And had someone who knows what they're doing twist up a 14 strand for me. All issued solved and have great arrow flight. Thanks everyone.
