rawhide backing

Just finished my first bow. 66" cherry with rawhide backing. Draws 60# at 26 and is shooting nice, just need to do final sanding and finishing. I need advice on what type of stain, varnish, etc to use that won't adversly affect the rawhide backing or am I worring about nothing.
