three more helle knives
« on: February 16, 2007, 10:12:00 PM »
Here's a quick picture of three more helle knives I had the priviledge to make. Top is osage/ebony with maple/purpleheart stripe. Bottom is osage/charcoalsilvertone with maple/purpleheart stripe. Middle is pink ivory/ebony with maple/purpleheart stripe to match a bow I made.

Those are beautiful knives.  I have a Helle knife and I love that laminated steel blade.  Easy to keep razor sharp.

Thanks everyone. Yea, I'll work on a build-along. Sounds fun. Alot of people have commented on the bottom one so I thought I'd show a picture of it from the top.

Bodork -- you're a living advertisement for Helle! I presume you get your blades from Chad Sivertsen? He's one of us, and if folks knew how affordable his naked blades are, there would be a lot more knifmakers out there ... though few as good as you. Best I've accomplished is putting an antler handle on a Helle blade. But even that, using antler I kilt myself, is tremendously satisfying. Chad is also a sponsor member of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (www.backcountryhunters.org). For those who haven't checked Hell out, go to  www.darktimberdesign.org  or com, I can't remember. If one doesn't work, try the other. Links will take you to kits and blades. Best thing to happen to knives and self-knifemaking in my long lifetime. Looking forward to your build along.

Great looking knives Bo!!  Which Helle blade did you use in those three and are you making your own sheaths?

Sneakypete, yes he gets his blades from us. Fine work again Mike. the addy is  www.darktimberdesign.com

Joe, Mike used Odel blades on these.

I recently added the Ola-Kniven blade, a small 2 1/4" long blade for a caper or neck knife. Just got some Brakar blades for those that want a larger blade and hope to have those on the website soon along with new sheaths, more exotic wood, epoxy and various spacer materials.

BTW, I get a few email requests for information that I am unable to reply to because some of you have spam filters that need to have our email address in the approved catagory. If you sent an email and don't get a response that is why.
Happy Trails,
Chad

Ok, Steve just ordered a couple blades.  Hmmm what grip material to use?

Do you guys drill a hole and epoxy the tang in or..?
