anyone have any info on this pack from Bison Gear? I will call Angelo on Tuesday but was hoping to check here as well. Also, I am looking at a Lemhi as well so if anyone has any firsthand info, I would appreciate it. Thx

Great pack. Mike Mitten ("Herdbull") recommended one as he's used the elk model quite a bit on solo elk and muledeer hunts. I called up Angie and had him build me a custom model last year. I used it for KY deer, Texas hogs, and KY spring turkey. It's going with me to CO this Sept. Mine is in a woodland wool pattern. Quiet, functional, comfortable, and extremely well-built.

I also agree Bison Gear makes an excellent pack. I have two of them. In fact, Angelo made my last one out of the same wool pattern to match my favorite wool hat. Not that I'm into matching/ fashion statements. I just liked the pattern for hunting. bw

I got a Lost River for my wife and I have a Lemhi. I have spent a lot of time with packs on my back in the last 21 years and these are the best that I have used! Joseph

I am trying to decide between the lost river, and the first trip explorer. I like the idea of a pack that will hold enough to overnight if necessary, yet still possible to shoot while wearing it. They do look like really good packs though.

I've been wanting to try Bison since they're MT made, but I love my Badlands too much to stray.

Jason, Rusty and I all have "lost river" packs by Bison Gear. We love them and won't go on a hunt without it.

I've been wondering about these packs. Do you guys wear them just for day hunts, or are you doing any backpacking with overnight stays? How much gear do you carry in them?

Here is my Elk Hunter. I hunt for over two weeks at a time in the wilderness, so I carry my stuff in on a pack frame, and then break down after that. The Elk Hunter works well for me as a day pack because I carry camera and video gear as well. They are very well padded and quite comfortable. There are plenty of tie on and strap on functions to this pack, so yes you could use as a primary pack for a 3 to 5 day outing. I also carry a small sleeping bag and Z-Lite pad and small tarp in the bottom of my daypack in case I need to stay out with the elk herd over night.

Angelo has not advertised the Elk Hunter pack much on his website, so I show this picture. Ha! Give him a call and ask about custom options. I like the small zip pocket on the hip belt to put my digital camera for easy access.

Mike do you know the cubic inches of this pack for comparison? I've got a First Trip and a Lemhi and would like something a bit bigger for longer stays out.

The main compartment is 20x11x13= 2860 ci. The normal stock version has three exterior pockets on the bottom as well, one is 13x8x4 and the two side ones are 7x8x4. The main compartment has a cinch top and a pocket flap over (17x13x2) which has another pocket on the inside. The back is fully lined and reinforced. Mike

I have what looks to be the 1st trip explorer and to me the Lemhi is twice the size and would be good for multiple day hunts. You could do overnights with the 1st trip if you attached to a pack frame for bigger loads or went light. Good luck

Herdbull - that is quite the quiver you have there.... Those Bison packs are nice and Angelo is great to deal with.

Thanks Mike, appreciate the info.
Wahoo, my Lemhhi will do overnight, but not 2-3 days...at least the way I pack. I guess I'll have to break down and get a framed pack eventually.

Love my Lost River, it goes everywhere I go hunting. I also have one of the tree stand packs that fits my Lonewolf, it's awesome as well.
