160 grizzly

Do yall who use the 160 grain grizzly take the bevel down to 25 degree angle - like the 190 El Grande?
Is the 160 as hard to re-bevel? I hear they hardened the 160's metal a bit.
They should use 190s to cover tanks with - no round would get through that.
Thanks

I just got my 160 grain grizzly broadheads. I have taken the bevel down on one edge so far. It wasn't very hard to do. I used a file and then took it down to a fine stone to finish it up. Overall I think they sharpen quite nicely.

Michael obviously has a rare talent that many of us can only envy! What do those heads weigh after rebeveling and sharpening? Best head out there today, IF they came properly beveled and reasonably sharp. Michael, I'll bet you could start a profitable moonlight business sharpening those darn things for the rest of us! d

Dr Ashby taught me how to sharpen the grizzly heads while he was staying here in Ga. Doc recommended using a Nicholson Milled curved tooth file - 14" Flexible Standard 50-908 #20189. It is the kind of rasp that autobody workers use and cost about $45-$50 I ordered mine from a local Fastenal dealer. I have some old 160 that were much eaiser to sharpen than the newer 190's. Doc says the new 160's are a little harder. After setting the bevel with the rasp we used Diamond hones - course, med, fine and extra fine and then stropped the edge to shaving sharp. Anyone who thinks that single bevels won't get shaving aharp hasn't seen properly done.

Jason, I removed 18-20 grains from each head. My 190's weighted about 198-200 before sharpening. The 160's weighted 157-158 before sharpening, but I have had them for several years.

The target Rockwell hardness on the 160's is 51, the 190's is 52, both of which is up slightly from a few years ago, but is more in line with the original Grizzlies.
