I'm sure one of the knowledgeable bowyers will chip in on this, but I've found that a VERY thin cyano-acrylate glue will flow into the area and fill it well. If the chip is strictly in the finish, a careful application of spar varnish (my favorite) or Tru-Oil will seal up the spot. a careful sanding/blending of the edges will make the spot not as noticeable.
I just got my first scratch on my new Whisperstik and used thinned spar varnish with great results. I have to look closely to see where the surface is a little shinier.
