New to Fourm and Traditional Archery

Hello every one, I am 20 from Missouri and living in Mississippi. I am new to archery and extremely new to traditional archery. I have an old compound bow but I would rather shot traditional, any info on how to start and where to get a cheap traditional bow. Would be greatly appreciated.              Tyler

Well that takes care of finding the bow.  As for getting started, find a club near you.  Sorry if I offend anyone but the best advice I can give is shoot with old timers.  Can't beat thirty or forty years of experience.

Hey Tyler,
We've just been helping a young lady get set up and started. She's twenty also! Weeeeird! But she's from up north. I'm sure you will get lots of help here. But you might also look at her threasd and see what was said there!
Check your eye dominance. Start with low poundage, I don't know for sure what to tell a young man to start with, maybe 40 lbs? Shoot several different bows. Decide if you want a longbow or a recurve. Look on the shoot forum and try to find some shoots to go to.

I am from Sikeston living in Oxford Ms. I shoot a 46  pound compound bow. My strongest eye is my left but i want to shoot with both hands, plus i shoot with both eyes open.

Never seen one with that little let off. Still you might want to start with something around 35# until you get things worked out.

If you want to try a bunch of different bows, the Howard Hill shoot is in McCalla, Al. in Tannahill State Park Friday through Sunday.  There will be a lot of vendors, most will let you try some of their bows.  If you can get there, you can get everything you need to get started.

Younger folks will be able to relate to what you experience coming off of the compound. Old farts like me don't know much about compounds but we can give you a feel for the history, and the nuts and bolts of archery. Hmm. Weren't any nuts and bolts (except crossbow bolts) when I started out.  :rolleyes:
