How many use G 5 Broadheads
« on: June 05, 2008, 10:03:00 AM »
I personally use Magness two blade with bleeders, but I was wondering if there is anybody that uses G-5's with success, I've never tried them with my setup, but I was thinking about using them with extra weight put in behind them to bring them up to at least 125 grain.

I like the design of them, but I don't know if they're made to fly right out of a traditional.

Thanks

The G5 Striker Magnum is deadly sharp, and is 125 gr. out of the package.  My first and only bow kill just a few weeks ago I used one.  Very impressive.

My only experience with the G5 was in Africa. We all shot Razorcaps in 125 grain. The compound guys were all shooting the G5 with dismal results. To be fair, a lot of their hits were marginal but the PH's told us they had long blood trails on everything they shot. All of our stuff went down in sight of the blinds except for 2 critters which only went a few hundred yards.

Maybe not a scientific test but it sticks in my feeble mind to this day.

Aren't those replaceable blades ?

I have some 100 Gr G 5 three blade that are just setting around, I should take them and screw them on some of my carbon arrows and see how they fly.  I would have to add some extra weight behind them, my arrows are set up for 125 grain broadheads.

But I was just curious if anybody else was using them and how they worked out.

Biggie....Actual always beats scientific, otherwise bumble bees wouldn't be able to fly.

I don't understand why someone would want to fix something that wasn't broken.  Hey...but I'm old 8^).

That's what keeps Magnus 2 blade on my arrows.  I'll find someone who wants them.

When you look through the threads you find it is two blades are seen over and over, and that's because they most definitely work.

I've used them with good results, the 125 grain G5 Montec.  Took out a 205 lb razorback boar, 18 yard shot both lungs - top of the heart, and a 60 yard recovery.  58# DAS Master Hunter, Gold Tip shaft total weight 415 grains.  Complete pass through.

Shot a whitetail doe in TX with a Snuffer SS which is very similar, approximately 75 yard recovery which had a pretty scant blood trail.  It was tall grass that made any blood trailing difficult...  Little over 30 yard shot, in at the back rib on the right side and out middle of the chest on the left.  55# A&H ACS-CX, basically the same arrow as above with the Snuffer SS on the end and another complete pass through.

I got a hold of some the old B52 heads Montec use to use. They are a 2 blade solid head. Super sharp! Fly great. I understand Montec is coming out in '09 with another 2 blade traditional head. I am looking forward to seeing these!

G5 made a 125 gr. version of the Montec?

I prefer the more gentle blade slope of the Razorcaps as opposed to the steeper slope of the G5.

G-5 made montec in 85 100 125 and 140 grain models, I have killed many deer and turkeys with both montecs and b-52s. They are flat out awesome! I have also been in dozens of deer kills by montec 125s, they work great.

One squirrel has fallen to the 'curve and three deer to the wheels with Montec 125's.
They do a great job after sharpening on the file and G5 diamond sharpener

I have not found a more accurate broadhead. Terry who built my bow shot a 200 pound boar hog at 17 yards with a montech 125gr 50# 28" draw recurve and had a complete pass thru. It is an incredible head and you will not regret using them.

I think part of it is "me" getting hung up on the idea that it has to "look" traditional to work with a traditional bow.

I guess the main thing is, I have heard and seen on here through photos, how well the two blade Magness broadheads work.  And you can't deny that.

I used the G 5, in the wheel days, and Dad also probably keeps me from using, because I feel like I'm going backwards.

I'll just have to get over it !

I shot alot of animals with them but shoot all magnus heads now.  The way they stand behind the product is amazing so they get my buisness.  The G5 did good though, they need a little touch up with a stone

I've shot deer with both the G-5 Montec and the new Snuffer SS, both in 125gr. I found the Snuffer SS to be superior because it has superior steel and holds an edge much better than the Montec.
