Broadhead Type and Tip weight.
« on: June 13, 2008, 01:14:00 PM »
I shoot a 55-60# recurve

27 inch 2117s Alluminum

Last season I shot 125 gr magnus stinger

I read alot about having more weight infront.

I was thiking about switching to a heavier tip like 140 to 160 grain.  The problem is I cant find a screw in broadhead from magnus that size.

I was also want to try zwickey  they have a 2 blade screw in at 160.

The last problem is,,, where do I find these heavier field tips to match the broadhead weight.

All opinions and help is very appreciated.

3rivers has field points up to 250gr. You can get multiple weight combinations if you use glue-on broadheads. Take a magnus 125gr glue then choose from alum adapters from ~20gr to steel adapters to ~125gr. Many possibilities.

I have used Braveheart Archery with good service and good products  http://www.braveheartarchery.us/new_page_23.htm

I just bought 4dz 190 Grizzly El Grandys and 4dz 190grain field point with a 125grain steel insert makes a 315 grain broadhead ( can you say umpha )   :goldtooth:

The sky's the limit in different combinations

like above, you can match almost any combo if ya are willing to use glue on points on adapters. A zwickey delta on a long solid aluminum adapter is 175 gr and you can buy 175 gr FP from any of the suppliers.. you might have to bump up to a 2216 which is a little stiffer than your 2117's

BHd combinations are endless, braveheart or three rivers, either will provide great customer service and good advice. Heavier up front can help flight but why not try some heavy field tips to get an idea of how they work for ya or how much weight to shoot for (pun intended!).

I think alot of people seeing wheelie jobbers shooting 85 or 100 grain heads get worried when you speak of 300 grains up front. It is not of worry.

I think I have finally decided on 160 grizzlies with 100 grain adapters, 260 up front.

How heavy up front can I shoot with a 2117.  I do not want to have to switch arrows at this point.

I would go the route of purchasing a small amount of field points in the weights you are interested in and shoot them.  Broadheads are expensive.  Also, penatrating ability means nothing if you can't be acurate with such and such a weight. Just my 2 cents.
