Strings from Alligatordond arrived.
« on: June 20, 2008, 01:02:00 PM »
Following my thread about strings, Alligatordond offered to make me up not one, but two strings, and post them to me in South Africa. All this free of charge!
Well they arrived today. These are green and tan flemish twist strings and look really good. It's the first time I've seen these type of strings and I'm really immpressed.
Got one on the longbow now and am going to give them a run tommorrow.
A big thanks to you Alligatordond.
Rod.

Clearly, saltwater fly fishing in the dark, Don's speciality when not bowhunting, makes for a generous personality! I'm not surprised at all.   :wavey:  dave

Thanks for the kind words Dave. My strings ain't beautiful,(I think everyone else can make em better and prettier), but they work.

I thought if the late great Jerry Pierce could build bows and give them away, I could surely give strings away to someone who may need one. In the 15 or 20 years since I learned the flemish twist, I have never taken money for a string. Same with my flies. You gotta tie alot just to get better, certainly more flies than my limited angling skills allow to get eaten . So I'll give away a handful now and again. They are rather ugly but will catch a snook, the only fish that matters  :)

As far as flyfishing, for snook of course, in the dark, Don and Lori Thomas are WAY better at it than I am   :notworthy:
