Bow Hush Question for Terry Green
« on: February 19, 2007, 12:40:00 PM »
I have installed one set of hushpuppies and bow hush   on one bowstring. I am about to do my backup string and want to know how you get the hushpuppy to ball up so neat and small like the one in your clock photo. You can see how the first one turned out in my video in the shooters forum.   Trad gang shooters forum   Did I not tie it tight enough? Or is it not trimmed close enough. Any help would be appreciated. Michael

Looks to me like it just needs a bit of shaping by light trimming and rounding off the ends a tad.

I have always discouraged trimming them too short, and not trimming them at all till they've been on the bow long enought to settle in and spin.

It's most important not to cut them too short at installation, cause the strands can fly out.  After 50 shots or so, they have usually spun around nicely, and are well on there way to fraying out evenly.  Just don't over do the trimming.
