Netting backstop?
«

I am sorry if this should be on the shooters forum but i am not able to post there.
Does anyone know what kind of netting is used on these backstops? The ones i have seen for sale are very expensive and i am hoping to find the material so i can build my own.
Thanks!

I've been shooting a bag target I got from Dicks sporting goods for 25-30 bucks. It's the large bag and the stuffing appears to be tent screening. The outside has long been shot up but I just drop the stuffing in a cardboard box and shoot till it's no good then get another box.The stuffing basically lasts seemingly forever.
i've also heard of folks using those plastic bags ya get from the store's these days not sure how thick you'd hafta go or how they hold up.
Even at todays price's a bag target can probably be had for 50 or less and they last like the energizer bunny...good luck

Thanks Tom, those are good ideas for targets but i was talking about those huge nets they use behind targets to help stop the arrows on a archery range.
We have a range and allot of new shooters who are constantly loosing arrows in the woods behind the targets.
The prices of those big nets they sell are out of our budget and i am hoping to find out what material they use to make them.

At the archery shop we go to they use old carpet folded over a 2by4 stand behind the target inexpensive and works well.

Sorry bout that LOL
As for stuff like carpets hanging behind the butts I think it looks like crap but thats just me.
3 bail butts are plenty big enuff that they shouldn't be missed to often and 3D targets well nobody says ya hafta shoot outta your range
Good luck

At our clubs indoor range we use kevlar sheets, they are expensive so I've been told, wouldn't know the cost as ours have been around a long time.

I use an old plastic "ripstop" tarp as a backstop at home. If it's draped pretty loosely behind the target, it stops any pass throughs without much problem. I am using wheat straw bales as my #1 backstop with the tarp set up behind those, so it's not like the tarp is taking a direct hit from a miss. I usually won't stop such as that...

I've done the rug thing between 2 trees behind my 3D target before just took it down when I was done.
Did that to take some long range shots and incase your wondering rugs stop FP's just fine but BH's hardly even slow down

If you live near a paper mill, ask them if they can save you the 'wire' when they replace it. The wire is actually the nylon mesh that the paper is formed on before it goes to the presses and dryers. They have to replace them on a regular basis and you would have ample. They would probably give you it as it is no use to them and they would be scrapping it. It is a little bit more rigid than the netting bought from an archery supplier, but if you hang it loose it will do the job.

A Decent Canvas is what I am Pondering for MY Backstop. Aircraft Cable, To Hang It With,And maybe a Tent Stake to Hold It In Place.
Figured I would Make Posts Of PVC Pipe. Nice Wall Thickness, not the Wimpy Stuff. Just Food For Thought. I have been Invaded by "Tricycle Motors"
