What Glue for Aluminum Shafts??
« on: July 03, 2008, 04:30:00 PM »
Hey all, I've got a quick question for you...I'm getting some Easton xx75 "gamegetter" shafts and am wondering which glue is better for fletching: Fletch-Tite Platinum, or some sort of Superglue???
Oh and I'm fletching them with 5" feathers...
Thanks,
Derek

Clean the shafts with 91% Isopropyl or a good thinner. I always use Bohning fletch Tite and never had problems with vanes or feathers coming off.

Clean shafts with rubbing alcohol and use Scotch Super Strength Glue.  Been using it for many years W/O a problem.

Once I tried the fletch tape I have only used glue at the ends of the fletch. It is amazing how easy and fast it is and I've never had one turn loose on me.I've only used it on aluminum but, my friends have used it on wood and carbon.  Thanks,  Ben

I use fletch tape with a drop of glue at the end of each fletch.

Don't like the tape, it likes to move.  FletchTite works great.

I have fletched more arrows with fletch tape than I care to mention and I have never, and I mean never, had one to move. I've had several pass thrus on deer and I just take a toothbrush with soapy water and clean the feather and keep on shooting and that's with fletch tape. If you know what you're doing fletch tape is the best thing to come along since sliced bread.

my opinion of course

I have used the kitchen cleanser and scotch brite pad method of cleaning alum. shafts for years. There is also a cleaner sold by Bohning that I have used. I use the newer Platinum glue as it works on carbon as well.
Acetone and bohning thinner will get the oils and such from the shaft but leaves common dirt that may be on the shaft. That is why I like the cleanser way of cleaning first followed with fletch-lac thinner cleaner next. More work but I had vanes fall off my arrows once. My son has not let me live that down all these years.

Goat Tuff (or tough, whatever) is great.  It's fast and strong.

Fletch Tight Platinum is ok (slower) but I'll probably never use the regular Fletch Tight again.  It's fine if you want to distribute feathers all over the woods, but if you prefer to have them stick to your arrow, it just doesn't cut it, IMO.
