Bow quiver ?????
« on: July 07, 2008, 09:47:00 AM »
Hey guys,

I just got a Selway slide on quiver. It looks cool and everything but, it seems to make my bow louder upon release. Is this a normal thing or is there something i can do to quiet it down. I already have string silencers and it was really quiet with out the quiver. Any advice would be welcomed.

It shouldn't make your bow louder, in fact often a bow quiver will quiet the bow down a bit.  My guess would be you don't have it far enough down on the fade outs.

I use a mixture of dish soap and warm water and "grease" the limbs real good, then slide the quiver way down on the fade outs, well beyond any part of the limb that works.

S-B-MO has a very true issue to look into.
But just curious, how long are your arrows?  I get a rediculous bit of rattle using a bow quiver because of the length of my arrows. So much in fact, I don't use a bow quiver.

I've been shooting Selway bow quivers for years and they've always helped to quiet a bow.  As Slowbow says, you have to position the quiver on the fadeouts, such that there's even a little fadeout protruding past the quiver.  The closer the two quiver parts are, the farther apart your fletching will be.  You also need to be sure to fit your arrows in the quiver so the fletches don't touch when the quiver vibrates at the shot.

I don't rember the bow being any louder, all I rember is that nasty amout of weight it added to my Bow ( I got the rubber version) I got the EFA and have had wonderful results since.

Only once have we (Eagle's Flight Archery) had a complaint about our quiver causing the bow to be louder. It was because of the way it was installed, and was easily corrected.

Almost always we hear how our quiver quietened a bow, and how you can't even tell it's on the bow as far as affecting how the bow shoots.

Minuteman, I'd like to make you an offer concerning what you said about, "Never had a bow quiver that didn't make a bow louder. Nature of the beast if you ask me. More stuff to rattle... My $.02" Our quiver (4 arrow) is lightweight, weighing under 6 ounce, and should not make your bow louder, or shoot any differently. If you're interested send me a pm.

I find that they quiet the bow also. What arrows do you shoot? If you use carbons as I do, they sometimes are not tight in the gripper part of the quiver. Black Widow sells little rubber things you put down there to tighten up arrow in the bottom part of quiver, they help tremendously by tightening grip onarrow, eliminating rattle. A rubber band may work wrapped a couple a times.

I have to agree with Don. For years I stayed away from bow quivers, dismissing them as noisy and heavy.

I had recently been thinking about trying an EFA quiver after the recommendations of another TradGanger whom I had the pleasure of hunting with this past January.

During the St. Jude's auction, one of Don's quivers really caught my eye - I just had to have it. After using it for the past couple of weeks, I have to say that I am thrilled with it. Not only did it quiet my bow down, but the little bit of added weight (the 4 arrows in the quiver weigh more than the quiver itself!) helped my shooting.

There are a few test to check out noisy quivers.
After installing and loading it up. Give the bow some solid raps using the heal of your hand . If you hear noise from the quiver continue until you've found how to prevent it.
Like said earlier fletches touching, or arrows not seated fully into the hood materialor anything loose will contribute to the problem.
