Turkey calls and decoys
«

Well, spring turkey season is a few months away, but I've got some special arrows this year that I intend to get soaked in gobbler blood. So this time, I'm not taking any chances.
I was wondering; what do all of you turkey hunters carry with you in terms of decoys & calls?

3 paddle calls
2 slates (glass) (Slate)
6 different strikers
9 mouth calls
1 shaker (gobbler)
2 plunger calls
Usually two hens one jake but this is always changing during season for me. I think this year one hen. It seems like they are gettin a bit shy of them nowadays up here. I recently seen a picture in a mag. they had about 6 to 8 deeks out in front of a blind. WOW!!!

a slate call in one pocket. two strikers in the other. maybe a hen decoy but it has hurt me more than its helped. ohh and a crow call and owl hooter. i use them more than the turkey call. i try to hunt precise enough that i dont need to call.

I carry a slate, a few mouth calls( a single, a double and a triple), a box call and I use a crow call or an owl hoot to locate.
As for decoys, I havehad great luck with two hens and a jake. I position one hen low to the ground, with the jake directly behind her so it looks like the jake is getting ready to breed her....drives the old toms nuts.
We should get toegther and kill one or two man...providing I can hit anything by then.LOL.
Let me know if ya have any more questions.

I like to carry,
one box call
one slate call
one waterproof slate man made material
various strikers including a waterproof one and a carbon for higher frequency calling.
four or so mouth calls raspy and clear.
Decoys
a Jake and one hen, but this year I'm bringing out my mounted hen that has a beard just to see what that will do.

I carry a variety of mouth calls, owl hooter, crow call, waterproof box, 2 different slates, wood striker, carbon striker, new this year: homemade box call, usually, just a single hen, and a but load of ambition(I need it to carry all this plus stool).

Too much.......that's what I carry.
A box call or 2
Slate and glass,or crystal
At least 3-4 strikers
Scratch box
Wingbone or 2
3-4 mouth calls
Crow call
Wing......great for fly downs at dawn.
Decoys vary...........I tried the Pretty Boy last season.Had mixed results, and it's a pain to carry if you have a good hike ahead of you.Full sized fan on the Pretty Boy resulted in a spooked off Longbeard.Switched to a jake fan and actually pulled a mature gobbler with 1 3/8" spurs away from 8 hens to come kick that jakes butt.
Sometimes I use Sceery inflatable decoys,very portable,a whole flock(3 hens & jake)will fit in my vest...........maybe only the jake,sometimes a hen or 2..........just depends on where,when,what,ect.

I generally just carry a wingbone call and also use my own mouth and throat. We have pretty dumb turkeys up here and lots of them. Hmm.. perhaps I am a bit turkey myself. ???
