Dear RICHARD,

Thank you for applying for Controlled Hunts. We regret to inform you that you were not drawn for any hunts this year.

Please check our website next March for information on next year's Controlled Hunts. If you would like to check your preference points, contact the Department at (405)524-6169.

See you next year,

Sincerely,

Hey Dave,

To be honest, I quit putting in for that hunt several years ago. My last experience left a little to be desired of. It was such a hassel with all the security checks and all the staff constantly reminding me how priveleged I should feel to be there.

They do a great job of managing for big deer! There are some real brusiers in there.

I have started applying for several of the other archery hunts accross the state (I live in NE Oklahoma). I did get drawn for a hunt on the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge/ Wilderness Area. This bowhunt had only 10 total spaces, and 2 of the others are my buddies! Most of it can only be accessed by boat. We are really excited to say the least.

Good luck on your Big Mac hunt! Check out their website. Maybe you might see some of those amazing deer they have.

Missed out on Mac this year. I had gotten in the past two years.

I did get an elk tag for the Wichita Mts NWR but that's not a bow hunt, dang it!   :banghead:

Keep us posted on the results. I lived in Oklahoma forever and didn't find out about this hunt until I started shooting trad and reading TBM and tradgang. Anyway, I'm going to put in for it when my shooting gets good enough to make it worth the trip.
Good luck.
That Salt Plains hunt sounds nice too.

Your right Dave,

I have hunted the McAAP several times over the years and the security was always pretty tight.

I guess I don't mind that so much. It just seemed like the last time I was there (several years ago) the staff acted sorta put out that they had to take time to deal with hunters. Like we were a nusiance. Every time I asked a question, or wanted clarification of something, I got the "You do realize how lucky you are just to be allowed in here, Right?" I know hunting isn't what the facility is all about. It is a privelage to get to be there, but I don't need my nose rubbed in it every time I want to be sure I am doing the right thing. I don't think I was being a pest.

I am sure things have changed, I hope all ya'll who got drawn get a chance at one of those MONSTERS!

OkKeith

I didn't get drawn either, and was really looking forward to it. Oh well, maybe next year.

Something I just don't get though is that past 3 years, myself and 2 buddies have entered nothing but this hunt and are still yet to be drawn. Yet, 6  or 7 years ago myself and one other buddy entered and were drawn the first time. And on top of that, Dave gets drawn in last year and this year, plus gets a quality pass to go a second time this year.

Our luck must just be totally non-existent.
