Feather Dying
« on: July 19, 2008, 04:45:00 PM »
What techniques do you guys use for feather dying.
Right now I've got two shield cut feathers soaking in a bowl with a bunch of green food coloring in it. We'll see how they turn out.

Any tips or info would be great

Contact 3 Rivers Archery.  They sell dyes for this.  I have dyed lots of feathers with good results.  Warning - better do it either outside or in your shop.  If you spill any in the house your wife you cut off you ---------.  Don't take a change it really stains everything.  Wear some rubber gloves also.

My dad takes a old mayonnaise conntainer fills it up with water puts the feathers in with die. Which you can get at the supermarget. Shake that. then let them sit. then let them dry.

I use RIT dye with a little vinegar in it.  Works fine and you can mix colors to get the shade you want.

I use the Great Northern feather dyes and have been very pleased with the results. Bright colors and they don't run
