Back to tunning
« on: July 20, 2008, 01:34:00 PM »
Back in Febuary I Got to a point of tunning where my arrows were tunned correctly as I could but I was not happy with the resutls. I was expecting alot more FOC than I was able to get.
My setup: Martin Savannah @50#s Pulling 28 1/2".
Shafts are Heritage 150s cut to 29". I ended up with 145gr point weight. I was expecting more but this is how it came out. I havent shot my bow much this spring or summer yet so I get it back out just to check where I left off and verify my old results thinking maybe I missed something. So I go out at about 12 yards start shooting 3 fletched shaft with 175gr tips and mix in a couple of bare shafts and they still are showing weak impacting a average of 31/2 inches to the right.  Should I get some Heritage 250's and try them?? Any advice would be welcome.
P.S I want to get some Grizzly single beveled heads to hunt with.
Thanks

Really surprised as I had a Savannah that was 51#s at 28"s and I draw 28.5"s(so around 53#s) and shot the 150's cut to 29.5"s and needed at least 200 grains for perfect bareshaft. If ya went form 145 to 175 that would weaken them. I think they are so stiff you are getting an opposite result. Try at least 225 up front or more! Let me know what happens. Shawn

Shawn,
Also last winter when I did the original setup I started full lenght, cutting 1/4 of an inch at a time. Everything showed weak using 175,200 and 225 tips. I let you know what happens after tonite.

Well I took your advice Shawn and started going up in weight. I ended up liking 300 grains up front, the bare shafts hit right with the fletched. I needed to work on my form and also used a wooden match taped to my bow for a sight.
That gives me a 642 grain arrow with 12.8 gpp and 22.41% FOC just what the doctor ordered.
Thanks for the help.
