Well, We had a great bunch come down to Hog Heaven this past weekend- Andy Lupher, Barry and "Sweet Sara" Bollinger and Larry Krumrine...a nicer bunch we couldn't have picked!

The heat was pretty oppressive, I tell ya, but they went AFTER some hogs. Many many were seen, but it was very early and very late, and then randomly in the middle of the hottest part of the day, for brief little snippets in wallowing areas...

Some opportunities were there, but wind and oddball circumstances played against us in trying to close some deals.

They saw enough sign and "hog parts" to agree that coming back in cooler weather was on the agenda for February or early March.

We'll hold them to it. It's a real pleasure to hunt with folks who come with some experience but are willing to ask, "HOW DO YOU DO IT?" and then take the shared info and put it to use.

I hope they'll be back often.

Ok, lets get on with the story. I just hate these long drawn out affairs,LOL. I have been there and I know they had a blast and ate like kings.

Porkers can be everywhere and still hard to kill. I once was withing ten yards of different pigs ten different times during the summer and never got a shot. Then the next time I went I killed two.It happens but its heaps of fun.Face it if us stickbowman had to kill something everytime and did not love just the hunt we`d all be shooting guns.RC

I'd just like to say thanks again to Ray and Mike for a good time and education on hogs. We had a great time down there despite the fact that it was really hot and we didn't bring any meat home, i feel ,we as group, new to hog hunting didn`t do it justice cause the pigs are there no doubt. The nice thing is when ur there it feels like its ur own hunting camp. A return trip is in short order.Ray an Mike went out there way to keep it interesting for my daughter Sara, it`s always nice we can come a way an feel like you made friends for life. One thing is for sure you won`t go home hungry.

Ray and SquirrelBait - thanks again for hosting us and showing us how to hunt for hogs. I had a great time both hanging out at camp and in the field.

The place is loaded with hogs.. but unlike us they were smart enough to stay out of the sun.

Did let one arrow fly. Larry and I were walking down a road when we saw a patch of black on the side. I snuck up on what I thought was a snack pig. The wind was swirling a bit so I stayed back a bit - thought it was < 20 yds, picked a spot and let fly. The 725gn arrow dropped low into the ditch. The pig morphed into a B-I-G hog -Larry thought about 350, as it came out. Found the ditch was deeper then I thought and the distance was greater. Found the arrow stuck in the side under water.

Larry took took the next stalks - had footballs at 6 and 7 feet but it was getting dark fast and he couldn't pick a spot.  Next night we had a decent one come in an Larry stalked one side of the road while I hung back a bit and followed on the other side of the road. The hog gave me a broadside but was facing Larry. I held off shooting think Larry would get a chance but the pig decided otherwise.

We are definitely heading back when the weather is cooler!!

Good times, good times!!
I think I like hunting hog more then hunting deer.  More action packed and I can actually move around and go in search of....
