Are you working with wood, aluminum or carbon? Makes a difference for the answer.

I'm sure there is another way, a cheap postal scale perhaps, but I find my cheap little digital grain scale to be one of the best arrow making investments I've made.

You can get a hand dangle grain scale for under $10 and the electronic ones are coming down, less than $35 I believe. Arrows are often weighed to within 10  grains spread in a dozen. Target archers like to get under 5 grain spread. Us bowhunters shooting 6 yards have other things to worry about.

Twisted, for woodies get a grain scale. They are quite cheap on the auction site and elsewhere-as others said, a good investment if you want to make good arrows.

My old spring-type grain scale went missing, so I bought one of the 3 Rivers scales that fyrfyter43 mentioned. It works very well and is accurate to a grain or two. I've put a couple of thousand shafts across it in the last month or so, no problems.

"3 Rivers has a digital grain scale for $25."

I bought one about a year ago, and it's great.  Good quality.

Not sure if that helps
