Carbon Express 45/60's: Input needed
« on: July 27, 2008, 08:00:00 PM »
Here is my setup. I shoot bows that are 52 lbs to 55 lbs with a 45/60 Carbon Express arrow with a 100 grain brass adaptor. Measuring from the end of the nock to the end of the adaptor, my arrow is 30 1/4" long, I draw 28". I use three 5" left helical fletching, total arrow weight is 532 grains. My problem is that out of some bows, like my 53# Big East and 55# Centaur, they fly well, but out of other bows they do not. Do I have a completely wrong arrow set-up?

Thanks - Doug

You didn't say what point weight you were using, but the 45/60 spines a little stiffer than a 2018.  So those arrows should be pretty close to what you need.  I'm betting you have several bows with different depths of shelf cut outs, if you measure them all you might find all the bows that don't "like" the CE have something in common.  Worth a try anyway.

The two bows you named are speed burners.  If your other bows don't approach them in the speed department, you may have too stiff a shaft for them.

You should be pretty close for any center cut bow. Maybe your others are not. I shoot 56 - 58 lbs with those shafts (Rebels and Terminators)cut to 29.5 with 250 grains up front, 27 inch draw.

I am just guessing these arrows are a little weak with that much weight up front.  I shoot 280grains up front cut to 29.5 inches on the rebel 60-75 carbon express with 53lbs at 28".  I would recommend stepping up in spine to a 55-75  cx and front loading right around 300 grains just build in room to adjust either way and you'll have some sweet death dealers.
If your shooting stinks, work with a Form master.  It'll bring back your A game.

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it. As far as point weight, I have been using 125 and 145 grain field points. For broadheads I am using 125 grain 4 blade stingers and 125 grain Razorcaps and 145 grain Bear Razorheads.
