Mixing stripped feathers and commercial feathers
«
on:

Is it going to make any difference in arrow flight if I fletch up an arrow with a mix of natural barred wild turkey feathers alongside a commercially ground feather. I use a four fletch set up and I was thinking about alternating every other feather with the wild turkey feather and then a commercially ground feather. The quill is much more substantial than the stripped off membrane. Just wondering?
Thanks for any assistance.

I three fletch. Two turkey one commercial and get good flight.

If you burn them, they will all be the same height, which should give you good flight. The natural feathers will likely be a little stiffer on the shaft than the commercial, but probably not enough to adversly affect arrow flight.

Chris... I understand your delima a little better now.
While I'm not sure how the fletch tape will affect anything, I do know that when fletched with glue the stripped feathers become rigid just like a ground feather.
Mixing the two (ground and stripped) on the same arrow should cause no problems.
I'd suggest taping these feathers on a trial arrow to see what happens. You can always refletch.
