ALASKAN TRAD GANG MEMBERS HELP
«

Well I booked a Blak Bear hunt in Alaska, for 2008. The outfitter said, it will be about a hour flight by floatplane from Fairbanks, to the camp on the Tanana River. So here is my question, is it possible it could be close to the Little Dealta area, and what mountain range would be closest. I understand Alaska is BIG and the maps I pulled up on the internet did not help me much, any info would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU

The Little Delta runs north and enters the Tanana River in between Fairbanks and Delta Junction. Most of the LD is in the Fort Greely Military Reservation. You'd have to fly southeast from Fairbanks to be near it. Tanana follows the Alaskan Highway from Tok to FBX so I bet you fly west to where the river turns north before entering the Yukon River.

juneaulongbow, Thank You. Atleast now I can look at a map, and get some kind of clue about the closest mountains, and the terrian.

Actually after looking at the map again you may be flying southeast but hunting the mountains to the northeast of the Alaska Highway.
I've got the Alaska Atlas & Gazetteer right here next to me at work.

Dank - Did the outfitter say if you are going east (Tok/Delta Junction)or west Tanana/Minto) from Fairbanks. The litte Delta area is east about an hours flight. I live just off of the Tanana (5 miles) about two hours flight time east of Fairbanks. As juneaulb said just follow the AK Hwy if you are going east. There is a big difference in terrain between east & west. Lots more water west & more mountains east.
Is this a spring or fall hunt?? Or when are you visiting?? Who is the outfitter?? Don't hesitate to shoot me an email if you want.

John, the hunt will be in the spring end of May. When I booked the hunt I was like a little kid all I heard was Alaska, black bear, hunt, and the Interior. I don't know if I can give the outfitters name on here so I will send a pm. I do know its going to be a long long long year.
