securing rope in arrow for added weight
« on: July 31, 2008, 05:24:00 PM »
Hey, I started a thread earlier asking about the weight of my arrows.  After hearing much input about them being too light for my bow I have decided to get some hollow poly rope to add some weight.  For those who have done this how do you secure the rope in the shaft, or is it even necessary to do so? I cut to lenght where the insert will fit "snug" against the rope. I melt both ends and insert with a liberated wire coat hanger.

I added appx. 100 grains per arrow this way.

I just cut mine to the length of my arrow and stuffed it in there. I also added about 100 grains.

I am cheap so :

I use the poly rope and leave it a little long, then burn the ends of the arrow, put down the nock end and insert the nock into the carbon shaft to hold in place. Seems to work just great, I got 50 ft of poly 3/16 poly rope at the dollar store for a buck.

Why do you wantot use rope as opposed to weight tubes?
You can get weight tubes in 2, 3,5 and 8 grains per inch weights.
Won't the rope pack up at one end?

I don't know if it will pack up or not.  I installed the rope last night.  Glued it to the nock, cut it to length and stuffed it in till it hit the insert.  I am going to try them out tonight hopefully it works well.  Just didn't want to spend the money on the weight tubes especially after shipping they would probably cost $20 instead of a dollar for rope and a buck in gas to get to home depot
