rust free broadheads!??

hi all, just wondering how the rest of trad people keep there broadheads from rusting?  i have for years used string wax on mine but maybe theres a better way? love to here from you all!

Not meaning to be a wise guy, but, the rusting thing is precisely why I only use stainless steel heads for serious hunting (big game). Before that I used Vaseline, chapstick, wax, etc. Now I sharpen my Phantoms and/or Razorcaps and the whole rust problem is a thing of the past for me.

Bill, is the steel harder-are they a challenge to sharpen?

I love the steel in the Phantoms and Razorcaps. I have even shot them into dirt, usually missing turkeys, and they often seem as sharp as when I put them in the quiver. I always resharpen them, however, once they have been shot. The Razorcaps are very easy to sharpen (just like a woodsman or snuffer) and the Phantoms are a snap with a Razoredge  or KME jig. If I don't use an arrow from one season to the next they still shave hair but I touch them up anyway. I seem to get the best bloodtrails from the RC's but the Phantoms are exceptional in the four blade configuration. I have not tried other stainless heads other than the old Bohning Blazers so I cannot say anything from my experience about any other SS  heads. Hope this helps.

Last year with my Snuffers, I covered the freshly sharpened blades with a Sharpe marker. They didn't rust throughout the season or sitting in my basement during the off season, but I don't think they got very wet. I'm not sure how effective it would be in really damp conditions. I'm also wondering if the marker causes them to be less sharp. It was hard to tell.

I wipe 'em down with light mineral oil... same thing I use on my high carbon knives to keep them rust free.  It doubles as a honing oil in a pinch too.

Spray with silicone like Black Magic and then I just keep touching mine up. I have a certain arrow that is always going in and out of the bowquiver. While sitting on watch I will usually touch this broadhead up with a  sharpening steel I carry also  strap with my leather arm guard.

Zephyr Broadheads, stainless steel and the edge doesn't oxidize so you don't have to touch them up near as often.  Joseph

anything that doesn' require yu to run your finger down the edge to apply it  :-)

In my broadhead box were I keep all of the extras I throw in the silica cases that come out of the pill bottles.

not anything that i can think of biggie, that is why i don't like carbon steel.

i am really looking forward to that new morrison stainless head.
