USAF son in NE needs info
« on: August 02, 2008, 09:19:00 PM »
My son is stationed at Offutt AFB in Omaha NE. Are there any trad shops around there? I found him a shoot in Fremont, NE he's planning to attend. He took a few of my Legacy arrows with him, but I'm sure he'll need to find a trad source up there sooner or later.( and a place to "hang out")

It just frustrates me that I can't be there to help him, I guess. He's shot trad all his life, by his choice. I told him he'd surely find help and info at a shoot. How about it Nebraskans? Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on your son serving in our armed forces. My son is also in the USAF and is presently in Tech school at Sheppard AFB, TX. If he (your son) has been shooting Trad all his life, I'm sure he'll find what he is looking for and he will receive the help of fellow tradgangers as well. I am a former bluesuiter and I just want to say my hats off to him!!!

Here's a link to the Nebraska traditional archers club    NTA  Also there is more info here on Tradgang if you scroll down near the bottom of the main page.

Most AF bases that I was stationed at had some type of archery club.  Some better than others.  Little Rock AFB has the best club and target range that I have seen.  Offut may have something that your son doesn't know about.

Tell your son thanks for his service. My stepson is sworn in now into the AF and is awaiting a tech school slot before he can go to basic training.  I guess it is in the blood.  His Dad, Mother and I (Step Father) all retired from the Air Force and he decided on his own that it was his turn.  Bless them all.

Toklat1 is that derived from the town of Tok somehow?  I flew out of there on a Griz hunt one time when I was young and bullet proof when I was at Eielson.

The NTA has a rendezvous around Labor Day,I think.
It is held near Fremont,if I remember correctly.
There are usually some bowyers and vendors in
attendance.
John Schaefer also used to deal trad.products out of
his home shop, don't know if that's still the case.
You may be able to contact him thru NTA.
Been in socal going on 5 yrs.so I'm a bit out of touch.

Thanks for the links, guys.(and the appreciation for his service!) If he cant find a shop close by, I'll turn him on to 3 rivers. Just didn't want him to have to try to buy arrows at Walmart.
They won't let him keep his bow in his room, has to leave it in his vehicle locked up- hopefully he keeps it unstrung.

The trad rendezvous in Fremont Friday the 15th to Sunday the 17th would be the best place for him to go. I can give you my contact info if he would like to get in touch with me. I work in Omaha and I live 25 minutes from Fremont.

As far as trad shops in the Omaha area, there are none. The name John Schaefer came up, which surprised me. He had his own shop here outside of Blair at one time. I talked with him personally a few years ago, and at that time he was planning a move to New Mexico and was selling some of his stuff on Delores' site when it was still up. Haven't talked with him since then. We do have Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop, Scheels, Full Draw Archery, and Woods & Water. Scheels will have the most trad stuff of all of them.
