Missouri managed deer hunts???
« on: August 03, 2008, 02:14:00 PM »
Hi all, just wondering if anyone is applying for any of the MO managed archery hunts?

Specifically, those in the northern or western halfs of the state?

I was planning on signing up for the Tiffany Springs Park hunt near the airport here by Kansas City because I've heard good things about it the last couple of years but I can't find it in the booklet.  Does anyone know if it's been canceled or if it was maybe run by some organization other than the MDC?  I couldn't get in on it last year because I had to get my bowhunter ed to be elligible but I have it now and can't find the hunt.....   :banghead:     If anyone knows how to get on the list for this hunt I'd appreciate it.  For that matter, maybe we could get a group of guys together for the hunt?  I think Brian Moeller and Chris Kinslow have both been on this hunt.  If either of you guys read this, give me a call at 816 582-4003.  EMail is "iffy" right now as I'm having computer troubles.

In the event that there is no longer any such hunt, does anyone have any recomendations for hunts in the Kansas City area?

Lastly, I understand that you may only apply for one managed hunt but, what I need to know is can I apply for an archery hunt for myself and sign my daughter up for a youth firearms hunt that I would attend with her?  (She's only 13 and can't hunt alone.)  Since I would have to attend her hunt with her, would that make me inelligible for a hunt for myself?

Thanks
Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Dave,

Go to MDC online and check out regional activities. Tiffany Springs is listed there.

How's the hunting? Do you have to take a doe before a buck?

Regular season limits apply.  If you only shoot a buck you will not be picked for the hunt again.  Last year if you killed four does yyou were automatically in the hunt for this year.  I saw plenty of does, but didn't take anything.  Was waiting for a shooter buck then I was going for the doe.  Saw some good ones while scouting and walking to and from stand.  The year before I took two does a day apart.  That was the first year of the hunt and that was what you needed to get automatically in for last year.  Had a chance at a nice ten point, but it didn't happen.

Last year I heared I guy took a 160 class buck.

Hope I get drawn this year

The doe in my avatar was the second doe from the first year.  She dressed out at 140+.  Ten yard shot.

Found it finally....

Couldn't find "regional activities" but got into "a guide for Kansas City hunters" and found the following link:

 http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/Documents/15061.pdf

Looks like it's not considered a regular managed hunt as it uses your regular deer tags and it says you can still apply for a real managed hunt.

So....what other "managed hunt" would be good to apply for?

Where you been hiding Dave?  Alot of guys have been wondering.  Yeah you still can do the other hunts.  I don't know what ones would be good, except the Busch Wildlife Area near St.Louis.

Burr Oaks has a managed hunt. I believe you have to kill a doe before your buck, unless that has changed.

Lake Jacomo, James A Reed have managed hunts also.

Whatever you do, stay away from Longview Lake.  Not a deer in sight.  :bigsmyl:

I have hunted Peck Ranch 3 of the last 4 years and it's been pretty good. Always a few good bucks taken on the archery hunt.

It's better to shoot for the moon and hit the fence post than to shoot for the fence post and hit the ground!
