Anyone get a new 50th from the Widow boys?
« on: February 23, 2007, 02:53:00 AM »
Hi all,

Just a wondering if anyone has in there hot little hands a new 50th Black Widow recurve or Longbow? and if the answer is yes than why havn't I seen pics posted as yet?

   :readit:

I was always planning to order one but I've enough bows and I now planning on putting the last steed into the stable. A new PLX KingWood but with the old LAG grip on him. Sound O.K or what?

So lets see all those 50th pics!

Here is a copy of my post on the Widow Web:

Sorry, got busy to send pictures. Will load them up soon. OK, stretched the dacron last night ( not a fan of the 97 stuff). Beatiful bow , really glows in the sun light. Rosewood stands out rich dark red/brown. Shot the following arrows at 22 yards. Grizzly Stik-Stika 423 grains Grizzly Stik-Alaskans- 597 grain X-7 2114- 480 grain Cedar (good stuff,Arrow Art)481 grain
Chrongraph= Smith sunglasses

Now all the osage bows I have shot prior were smooth but slow. NOT THIS PGA!! My sunglasses, I mean poor man's chrono said all the arrows were smoking down to Mr.foam Deer. Of course the Alaskans were a little behind the rest of the pack. Sitkas shot perfect, well so did the other three. I like 10 grains per lb.(52#) so I need to add more. I hope the pictures come out. 1st arrow in the 10 spot on Mr.Foam Deer. 2nd arrow, well look at the picture, says it all. I need to glue a new nock on the Sitka. This bow is going to be fun, fun, fun!

Yes Aussie - I know you have a real weakness for those Widows.  It must cost you a fortune by the time the customs boys the exchange rate and postage get stuck into you??

However they would be a beautiful bow to own.  We have heaps for trad guys in our club at Sydney, but I have never even seen a widow.

Beautiful bow! I gave serious thought to ordering one, but there are other places where the money is more needed. Congratulations!
Alan, I had an LAG that I liked pretty well and when I got my first PL I wasn't sure if it would work out for me. It didn't take long to get used to the "new" grip and now, anything else I shoot feels strange to me. I've got the two PL's and I am more than pleased with them. FYI-I have found that with the PL longbows I DON'T NEED to shoot an extremely high spined wood shaft. With either bow, a Beman 400 or a GT 5575 with a 100 grain brass adapter and a 150 point shoots like a dart, but I found that 60-65# spine wood shafts with 125 gr. points shoot great from either bow as well (53# and 58#). I tried heavier spine wood shafts and did not get as god of flight from them. Your new bow sound like a winner. Post some photos when you get it! Mike

I have a PSA3. If I did not like it so much I would buy one of those beauties. GREAT looking bow!

Yes Thanks for the Pics High country. She sure looks like a keeper. I'd love to order a PGA but I've two good Widow T/Ds now so I'll have to pass up that fine looking lady.

Suttoman, I've been lucky to own 4 widows in the past but I was real lucky in my last order that the bow came stright to my PO Box. Missed all imports and GST! Was a good day thats for sure.

Mike my far off mate, I'll get my New Zealand hunting trip out of the way, than I will be placing my order asap upon my return. I had a LAG but in a moment of weekness passed it onto someone less deserving. Arhhh well the things we do...

These bows have exceeded my expectations. Not only in beauty but the performance as well. I think this bow will out shoot my PSA.
Anyone who ownes a Black Widow knows how high the expectations are. My new PGA was delivered last week and I could not be happier. Anyone on the fence, order one before they run out of Rosewood.

I just got my PLGA last week.  My wonderful wife and daughter ordered it for me.  I am really liking it!  It shoots as good as it looks!

I have been wanting to order one of aniversary longbows, just do not have the cash right now. I start a new job on the 15 th, so maybe a couple of weeks after that I will get her done. They are nice.

Alan, I have seen your kingwood and it is a beaut. I can't see where the PGA would be any better looking.

But a new bow is really nice lol. Alan

Lefty
Yours looks almost like mine. The rosewood on your is a little lighter colored than mine and yours is built backwards.
I bet yours shoots as good as the one I have though.
Light weight, fast and stable.
This thing outshoots any recurve I have ever shot.

John,
The thing I was most impressed with was how smooth the draw is.  WOW!  And you are right it is a shooter!
